Memorial Day Message

I hope all of you and your loved ones are doing well.  I’m sure this is a Memorial Day like none that any of us have experienced in our lifetimes.

As we pause this holiday weekend, when cookouts and relaxation are the traditional activities; most if not all of us are under currently some type of restrictions for gatherings and activities.  Let us remember this Holiday began as a series of remembrances to honor those who died both North and South during the Civil War.

We would be remiss if we did not remember those Brothers of Tau Beta Iota who made the supreme sacrifice upon the Altar of Liberty in service of the Armed Forces of this great nation.

You may find a list of our Brother’s that we lost during time of war under the link “Honored War Dead” in the menu on our site.

TBI Convention Update

(As of April 14th, 2020)

Our next scheduled meeting is Thursday, June 18th, 2020 at which time we will finalize all plans for Convention. As of this notice, the TBI Convention is still planned to occur with the usual events on July 30th thru August 1st, 2020. The TBIAN newsletter will be sent to all members by e-mail on June 19th and will contain all Convention related information. We will update this notice should circumstances change regarding August.

I have had a few Brothers ask me privately about Convention so I wanted to provide a few answers to you on a variety of subjects that some of you may also be thinking about:

  1. Are we still having a Convention?  Yes.

As of now we have not received any information that affects our Convention.  We are still planning the Convention as usual for July 30th, 31st, and August 1st.  We will have a Social on Thursday, Golf & Pig Roast on Friday, and the Stag Picnic & Annual Meeting on Saturday.

2. When will Convention information be sent out?

Since we had to cancel the April meeting, we won’t finalize the menus and prices until the June 18th Meeting.  As we have gone paperless, The TBIAN with all Convention information will be sent out to everyone by e-mail on June 19th.  This still gives everyone 5 weeks to get their money in before the Advance Price deadline.

3. What is the deadline to pay the Advance Price for Convention?

Friday July 24th.  We always set this as the Friday before Convention, because we have to call in meal counts (hard numbers that we are obligated to pay for) on the Monday before Convention.

4. What if the June Meeting is cancelled?

We will notify the members by e-mail if the current restrictions that prevent our holding April’s meeting are still in effect at that time. If this occurs, the Officers will finalize the menu and pricing.  The Convention information will still go out to everyone by e-mail on June 19th

5. What if restrictions might be in place in August or directly affect Convention?

We do not have any such information at this time.  If we learn of any before the June meeting that will impact Convention in any way, such information will be contained in The TBIAN.

6. What if we have to cancel or make changes to Convention after June?

We will notify the membership by e-mail of any changes / cancellations / new information, etc. as soon as possible.  I would assume we will not know any of this with certainty until about mid July.  If we have to cancel or change anything, anyone who has already sent their money will have it refunded as applicable.

7. Has Convention ever been cancelled before?

What we know as TBI Convention began as an annual summer picnic in 1929 and grew from there.  It was suspended during World War II (summers of 1942-1945), and resumed in August 1946.
